VALOR

VALOR Program
At Cross Keys Equine Therapy, we recognize the unique challenges faced by veterans and first responders. The VALOR program was created to provide specialized, trauma-informed equine-assisted services that honor their experiences and support meaningful healing.
VALOR seeks to combat stigma associated with mental health care for veterans and first responders by offering a trauma-aware approach tailored to their specific needs. We are hopeful to provide this program free of charge in the future, as we are committed to increasing access to services for those who have served our communities and country.

About VALOR
VALOR is a specialized component of our Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) program designed to support veterans and first responders through trauma-informed, relationship-based care with horses.
Many individuals who have served in these roles experience barriers to seeking mental health support, including stigma, cost, and accessibility. The VALOR program is designed to reduce these barriers by actively seeking funding sources to provide services at no cost whenever possible.
Our Approach
As with Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, VALOR sessions are facilitated by a collaborative team that includes:
- A licensed mental health professional
- An equine professional
- Horses as partners in the therapeutic process
This team-based model supports emotional regulation, connection, trust-building, and trauma recovery through experiential, horse-assisted interactions.

Program Goals
The VALOR program aims to:
- Reduce stigma surrounding mental health care for veterans and first responders
- Increase access to trauma-informed therapeutic services
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for healing
- Support emotional regulation and resilience
- Strengthen connection, trust, and self-awareness through equine partnership
- Remove financial barriers to care through grant and donor funding
Accessing Services
We are actively working to secure funding to offer VALOR services free of charge to eligible participants. Availability may vary based on current funding and program capacity.
