Executive Director (Part-Time, 20 Hours/Week)

At Cross Keys Equine Therapy, we are committed to providing trauma-informed equine-assisted therapy and learning programs that offer hope, healing, and emotional growth through meaningful relationships with horses.

Position Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and sustainability of Cross Keys Equine Therapy. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role provides strategic direction and ensures alignment with the organization’s mission, philosophy, and annual goals.

The Executive Director serves as the primary link between the Board and staff, overseeing operations, programs, finances, human resources, facilities, and fundraising. This position combines executive leadership with hands-on development responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

Board Administration and Support

  • Implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization
  • Provide leadership toward achieving the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors in developing and implementing a strategic plan
  • Serve as liaison between the Board and staff
  • Advise and inform Board members on organizational performance and needs
  • Provide regular operational and financial reports to the Board

Program, Product, and Service Delivery

  • Oversee and manage all program operations, including design, delivery, marketing, and quality of services
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily operations and staff assignments
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure program alignment with goals and standards
  • Oversee program development and continuous improvement
  • Address client-related issues or concerns
  • Ensure high-quality service delivery

Financial, Risk, Tax, and Facilities Management

  • Develop and recommend annual budget for Board approval
  • Manage financial operations in alignment with approved budgets
  • Provide monthly financial reports and updates
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements
  • Manage grant funds according to funder guidelines
  • Oversee organizational expenditures and purchasing
  • Manage risk, facilities, and on-site operations/events
  • Ensure regulatory and operational compliance

Human Resource Management

  • Serve as Human Resources Officer
  • Hire, onboard, and train staff and volunteers
  • Conduct performance evaluations and staff development
  • Supervise staff and support team effectiveness
  • Ensure HR policies comply with applicable laws
  • Mentor staff in professional and spiritual growth
  • Foster a collaborative and healthy team culture

Community and Public Relations

  • Maintain a strong and positive organizational presence
  • Promote understanding of equine-assisted therapy in the community
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders
  • Communicate organizational impact through reports and materials
  • Cultivate donor and community relationships

Fundraising

  • Identify funding needs and pursue diverse funding sources
  • Lead fundraising campaigns and event planning
  • Develop and maintain donor stewardship systems
  • Cultivate individual and institutional donors
  • Write and submit grant proposals
  • Manage donor communications and fundraising records

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in nonprofit or business management (supervision, budgeting, program planning)
  • Experience in fundraising, donor relations, and/or grant writing
  • Alignment with the mission and values of a Christ-centered organization
  • Ability to provide spiritual leadership consistent with organizational beliefs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with staff, Board members, clients, and community partners
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with discretion and professionalism

Preferred

  • Experience in mental health services, trauma-informed care, or related fields
  • Experience working with horses or horsemanship preferred

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Combination of office-based and outdoor work
  • Frequent interruptions requiring flexibility and responsiveness
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 25 pounds
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality required
